Comic Book A Day – Day 19 – Silk Spectre #2

Before Watchmen Silk Spectre

Silk Spectre will blow your…mind!

I really enjoyed Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre #1.  Seeing protagonist Laurel Jane try to have some semblance of a normal life while living and training with her superhero mother the original Silk Spectre was heartwarming and a really good story.

Before Watchmen

No Pappa Smurf, I’ve never taken Steroids, why?

While I enjoyed Amanda Conner’s art, I wasn’t very into where the story went.

Beat the Meatles

Cooke turned issue #2 into an anti-commercialism piece with evil businessmen trying to entrence consumerism into hippies through tainted LSD. ┬áHonestly, it’s just stupid and something I would maybe expect to see in a Howard The Duck comic (where I would actually go along with it because it fit the style more).

It’s especially disappointing since Cooke has set the bar so high with his previous work and even with issue #1 of the series.

Because of this I’m giving Silk Spectre #2 (2012) 2 out of 6 possible Aarons.

I ex-spectered more,
