Comic Book A Day – Day 23 – Frankenstein Agent of Shade 12 (2012)

Frankenstein Agent of Shade 12 Review

Who ordered the pizza…of doom!

Ok, so I really like this series.  I recommend you go out and buy it and support the weirder, newer characters of The New 52, but this particular issue was kind of just “eh”.

Frankenstein Agent Of Shade

Frankenstein has a lot on his mind.

Now the first story arc was written by Jeff Lemire who has also been writing Animal Man which I also love.  Lemire made Frankenstein the leader of a rag-tag group of “creature commandos” working for an underground organization called S.H.A.D.E. (you look it up, I’m busy).

Look at me I wear glasses and write awesome comic books, I’m soooo cool!

Lemire is one of the best writers working today.  His ideas are outstanding and his story plotting is exciting and brilliant and his dialogue is crisp (whatever the eff that means) and jumps off the page (another thing where I don’t know what I’m talking about, let’s just say that his dialogue is awesome, OK?).

Now the main reason I didn’t like this new comic written by new FAOS writer Matt Kindt is because it was a hurried mess,  being narrated by Agent Belroy as told to Father Time.  While we do see all the action, I guess I really like to see stories being told first person through the main character’s own voice.

I’m hoping this series regains it’s magic, as it’s a killer idea which while initial writer Jeff Lemire was at the helm was…well…killer.

I’m giving Frankenstein Agent of Shade 2 out of 6 possible Aarons, but I hope issue 0 and 13 bring it back up to it’s former glory!

I ordered the pizza of doom (I was hungry),
