Comic Book A Day – Day 50 – Batgirl #0

Batgirl #0 review

She gets shot in the end, an Oracle told me.

March of the Zero issues continues with my review of Batgirl #0!  Huzzah!  I do like Batgirl as a character but a lot of her stories fall flat.  I personally think she was really interesting as Oracle, but no matter how many other characters they tried to put in the Batgirl mantle, there’s just one and that’s Barbara Gordon.

and this is for being bald!

I did like this story, although I have to admit that I’ve dropped the normal series as I just found it uninteresting.  Writer Gail Simone does a nice job of showing us how the New 52 Barbara Gordon got her first experience as Batgirl and her first interaction with Batman.

She’s shown to be an extraordinary girl growing up, smart, dedicated, trained in martial arts since almost the beginning, and with her father being James Gordon, well it just makes sense that she takes the path she has.

Cosplay never looked so dangerous!

It’s possible I missed it and maybe it’s coming up, but I would really like to see how she went from being a paraplegic to being I’m kicking your ass Batgirl, but again, I have’t been following the series so it’s possible, I’ve just missed the story.

All in all, this is a good Batgirl story and worth the read, so I’m giving it 3 out of 6 possible Aarons.
